The third annual WIXC Awards Banquet wrapped up a great year of cross country racing and kicked off the fourth season of Rick and Paula Anschutz Hare scramble series. Kids and adults alike look forward to the awards banquet to catch up with friends and talk about the next season. This year’s banquet featured awards for the series and recognition for riders who branched out to national competition. Membership for this year was 96 riders, 75% of whom were at the banquet; for a total turnout of 180 riders, friends and family. Several riders were advanced to the next level of racing. Zach Herfindel of Eagle River, WI advanced to AA. Dillon Mueller of Mishicot, WI was advanced from B to A (bike) Nick Pohl (Mishicot), Ross Seefeldt (Valders, WI) and Kevin Massie (Kenosha, WI) advanced from C to B (bike). Jared Schwarz (Rapid River, MI) advanced from Quad B to Quad A and Blake Kreuser (Kenosha, WI) advanced to Quad B. Two WIXC riders took first place in their class at the GNCC Ironman in Indiana, TJ Kerscher in the 14-15 85cc class and Joe Lienhard in the +40 Quad B class.
Rick and Paula are constantly finding ways to improve the quality of cross country racing in Wisconsin. Not only do they look for versatile, challenging tracks but they have made racing more affordable. With several double headers each season, riders and families can fit more racing in with less travel time and expense. Tracks that allow camping during double headers give riders and their families more opportunity to get to know each other, share riding and maintenance tips and have some good old fashioned fun. Campfires, dodge ball games and pot luck meals are a common site during any double header.
WIXC encourages all levels of riders to come out and participate. All tracks are laid out personally by Rick Anschutz, a long time rider and race coordinator, with safety always the first concern. Rick has a great eye for creating courses that test the skills of every level of rider by providing multiple lines through a variety of difficulty levels.
